Our History
Farmers and Merchants Bank was incorporated in August 1949 and opened its doors as a full-service community bank serving Wilkes County in March 1950, with total assets of $84,656.
The Bank’s original location was 10 W Robert Toombs Avenue just off the Square in downtown Washington (the building previously occupied by Kettle Creek Arms & Sports).
The Bank purchased a lot located at 201 E Robert Toombs Avenue in December 1958 and constructed what is now the Downtown Branch location.v
